 I originally created this for compatibility with Google's Maps Data API.
 However, as Google have now abandoned this, I've no further use for the
 patch - unless someone else comes up with an API that needs inserts in
 separate transactions. Change state to 'redundant' or 'no longer needed'
 :-)
