[OpenLayers-Users] Background color for layer

Hi, 

Is there some way to change the background color for layers? like the "blue"
in openlayers.org main page?
Currently all the layers i got , have white background, and if i change
style for #map in API , it changes the background color of ONLY the MAP box,
and the layer background is still white.
Any suggestions please.
