There could be a number of reasons for this.  You'll get more detail if 
you do the following:

  * Add "?strict=true" to your WFS URL.  So, if it was "/geoserver/wfs" 
before, make it "/geoserver/wfs?strict=true" (yes, even though the 
transaction is POSTed).

  * Configure the server for verbose exception logging.  More details 
from GeoServer folks/site on how to do that.

I'm assuming you are using the WFS layer in 2.7 (or the trunk).  If you 
are able, you could try the new WFS protocol (not yet in trunk).
