You can also set buffer to 0:

I think you can set the singleTile property of the WMS-layer to 'true', so 
that only one tile will be fetched from the server.
 
  

	We are using OL to show a map (not zoomable and no panning), just a
	straight map, and therefor there is no need for OL to load the surrounding
	tiles. The map that is shown is aproxomatly 2*2 tiles but if I look with
	FireBug the application fetches more than 30 surrounding tiles witch is
	quite unneccessary..
