[OpenLayers-Users] Newbie question: OpenLayers with mapserver?

Thanks a lot for your help , other guys as well
But, why is it the right way when i don't need any external data like google 
maps, ....? why should i set my mapserver as a WMS or WFS server?
sorry if my question is so basic.
