[OpenLayers-Users] Click-Checker

Hey there:
I have a basemap in Openlayers and a layer including a polygon. I now want to click that map and check if i clicked inside the polygon or not. In both cases I want to alert the result. I now don't want you to provide me with any code, I just want to know if this is possible and a rough direction where to start...
