[OpenLayers-Users] NEWBIE : Displaying points of interest on a map. KML? Other method?

Hi,

I'm using openlayers to display data on an OSM map.
I would like to show an undefined number of points on the map.
I would also like to be able to zoom into any of the points when a
javascript code is called.

Is there a way to define these points through javascript? Do I have to
format a KML in code to do this?

I need some direction since this is all new to me (Using Openlayers)
