[OpenLayers-Users] How to use text instead of icons as markers

Hi,
I am using GeoServer and Mapfish and have a PostGIS database with markers
but I do not want to display the markers as icons but use the text from a
field "markertext". How do I do that in OpenLayers? Any idea to where I
start? I looked at OpenLayers.layer.text but that does not seem to solve my
task. I would be glad to where I can start to look for a solution. Thanks.
