Alexandre is correct - use WMS to display where possible. Furthermore, 
KML can be compact but more often is extremely verbose. A WMS/WFS app 
structure is more complex to create but it pretty much optimises your 
web resources. If you have line/polygon objects with a very large no. of 
vertices, then consider also using SLDSelect. This way, WMS also draws 
the selection and the only thing you need to return to your app in 
queries is the attribute values.
