Popups are a result of event handler, I believe. You have to
click/mouse over a marker to create popup. If I understand Auftrag's
question, he wants both the marker and its label displayed without any event
handling. I am also looking for this feature. Is openlayers support this
functionality? Or even a Vector object and its label

[OpenLayers-Users] marker label?

So there's no another way to add "real" label to the
marker? my application
required that user can see point(marker) name
without need to mouseover or
click on it, i even discard such
functionality, the reason was the
application was intended for use in
mobile device that have input limitation
(Ajax works though).

For my
application need, popup (both on click or hover) was useless, how can
we
hover/click a marker when we don't have stylus or atleast virtual
cursor?
think we were using a cellphone with only 0-9,#,* and navigational
key
there.

For that reason why i need some tricks to put label
marker on map, Ka-Map
offer this feature in their xml overlay functionality
so maybe in future
version OpenLayers can add this feature.

Okay i
must admit that "maybe" initially OL was created to mimic Google Maps
on
their interface (GMap also has marker without label so we must
hover/click
on it) but additional feature would be nice (like they have done
with
current OL).

PS: feel sorry if i can't describe my needs very well on
