Hi all,
I just spent some time working on the wiki, as it's getting clear that over the last year We made ALOT of great progress. ... unfortunately (on my part) the wiki got neglected.
So i created a main wiki page which should serve as a base.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Canada_Import_Status

So all the stuff on the "geobase Import" page can stay, it just needs to be fixed up a little considering it's only talking about how to import the roads, when my canvec stuff doesn't even think about it, but is still an 'attribution=Natural Resources Canada' fun bag of chex.

Also, there needs to be room to list the Ontario Land Resources Database import (that i still plan on dealing with in the next couple weeks). page and status. (as its provincial and not federal).

As well as the City of Vancouver Data (bus stops), and Nanaimo data (cycle routes). that needs to be dealt with too.

Meanwhile, there is ongoing talk about local Chapters, where some of us are involved in discussions with, so as this import progresses, we will start to see a greater need to form some type of organization.
Others (around the world) have already a "OpenStreetMap working group, as a part of OSGeo", where here in Canada, we haven't had much discussion. As there are 3 OSGeo chapters across the country. And to varing extent they are involved with OSM. I would hope that all those interested would be working from this main talk-ca list, as everyone is welcome to chime in :-)

For the time being, yes it's a slow and steady process, but fortunately were not doing this alone, as for each bit of progress we learn from each other, and the process gets easier. .... i appreciate every ones patience with me, :) (i do have a real-job, but this is my passion, since i want to make a bike route across Canada book... and it's hard to do if no map data, so that's what I'm doing)

And a final thought,
I did just update the canvec2osm wiki page, and i have most of the 092 tile areas converted, and available to copy. Over the next few days I'll be converting a few pockets across the country where i know there are local mappers, in hopes that some will find some bugs in the script, as well as in the different rules.txt files that i need to fix, before rolling it out to the rest of the country :)
