[osgeo4w-dev] Apt for OSGeo4w - r60

Hello All,

Some recent changes to apt for OSGeo4w are:

 * md5 checksum now works properly (previously I was testing the
*filename* instead of the *file* itself, doh!)
 * report download progress as percent instead of neverending dots
(sometimes reports >100% though)
 * a current standalone exe

Python code and the standalone executable can be nabbed from
http://code.google.com/p/maphew/

I'd like to find a way to shrink the exe, it's approaching 3mb which
is heavy for a simple installer which doesn't actually carry any
payload, in my opinion.

Frank was wondering earlier if there was any significant advantage to
an .exe over the .py. I have found one scenario where it is very
useful: the exe can be used to update python itself whereas the apt.py
cannot.

enjoy!

feedback welcome,
