[Live-demo] GeoServer and other problem problem

Hi,

Can you describe what you changed in the Virtual Machine?

Root login has to be enabled for Ubuntu/Xubuntu etc

As for hosting your thesis using OSGeo Live, I remind you that this is 
Free and Open Source Software, so basically yes :)
