One of the things I noticed: booting the LiveDVD on a machine with
WinXP auto-mounts the windows drives. However on a Win7 machine
this does not happen. Probably due to NTFS v6.1 on Win7? Maybe the
same problem exists mounting samba shares. Newer Windows 2008
servers (and probably Win7 also) have changed the protocol
somewhat. Maybe the samba version (and ntfs support) that comes
with Ubuntu doesn't support these?</p>

also we should add a few paragraphs to that page stating how to connect to
a samba remote shared network drive. I think we've already got the needed
software on the disc, we just have to explain how to use it and perhaps
add it to our list of things to test before release.
IIRC think Alex had some problems with samba(?), but for me it worked
fine, ...shrug
It might be as simple as typing `smb://servername/path/to/files/` into the
Thunar file manager GUI.
