<br>
Cameron,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've been admiring your work from afar for some time. At the
recent f2f board meeting we all agreed that the OSGeo Live disk
was probably the most critical project out there. It takes us
beyond the experienced developers and connects us with new users.
Everyone was excited about OSGeo4W as many large corporations and
government agencies are heavily invested in that OS.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I wanted to make you aware that Phil, John and I have been
actively involved in some fairly high profile US government
projects where we plan to expose your excellent work:</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>NGA IOST - National Geospatial Intelligence Agency Innovision
Open Source Technology - Goal is to introduce open source
software technology into the agency. Phil is leading this, we
have already exposed several server side technologies, we hope to
introduce desktop clients shortly (Windows is their installed
platform)</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>DSI - One of the several related projects for NGA is the
Disaster Support Initiative. The plan is to make data and
software available on Amazon Web Services to prepare for and
support international disasters and collaboration.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>USDI - (Department of Defense) - We will probably start this
effort in April. The goal is to show what we can provide in an
open source suite that would overlay the current and future plans
for the military/intelligence community. They are currently
investing in very large programs in each branch of the military
and intelligence community with proprietary solutions (esri,
oracle, socket set, web logic, etc). Our focus is to develop
related technology that is open and shareable with international
forces and agencies. John Scott will be leading this project.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>As we evolve this over the next year we want to demonstrate
international collaboration beginning with the coalition forces
(US, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand) as a start.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>As an OSGeo board member, I want to focus as much attention and
resources as possible on the OSGeo. It is a logical place to go
as these agencies learn and begin to use OSS.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Wanted to make you aware and thank you for all of the hard work
that you have put into the organization and the OSGeo Live Disk
effort. We'll keep you in the loop as we move forward.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>We are busy organizing foss4g-na (April 10,12 - Washington).
It appears we will max out the venue at 400 people. I'll check
with the OpenGeo guys, but was thinking about running off about
500 of the OSGeo Live 5.5 disks. Other than <a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://live.osgeo.org">live.osgeo.org</a>,
any pointers to labels, duplication providers, etc that you might
be able to point me at?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Hope to connect with you in the near future.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Thanks</div>
