<div>Hum, the qix file generated by OGR utilities is certainly
compatible with GeoTools based software,</div>
<div>but I believe the .fix file is unique to the Geotools
world, it's a "feature identifier" index, also used</div>
<div>to have the shapefiles maintain their original keys in face
of feature removal.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Normally the .fix file is automatically generated on a as
needed basis, either as a result</div>
<div>of someone editing the file, or trying to access it with a
feature id based filter.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>That said... maybe that's the problem? I mean, when in live
mode, is the code able to</div>
<div>create new sidecar files?</div>
<div><br>
</div>

Thanks for your comments. The problem on the LiveDVD is that the
data directories are set read-only, so I think that the Geotools
procedure would fail. That's why we wanted the .qix and .fix created
in advance. (In addition, on a Live system, they would disappear at
each reboot)<br>
<br>
Thanks,<br>
Micha<br>
