Hi Folks,

While I was at Carleton University today, stopped in & spoke with Scott
Mitchell about our fall events. Summary below, please note that we would
need to formally follow up on some of these items. Putting them forward for
discussion etc.

- We can certainly use the computer lab facilities (larger one holds approx
35 with additional space for laptop users) & more than likely one of the
conference rooms. We will need to go through Scott to request these.
- No glaring issues why we couldn't do the balloon mapping but we would need
to follow with university. One key discussion was disclaimer forms for those
(students/others) participating in outdoor activities (balloon
mapping/openstreetmap). Scott has offered to dig up the universities field
trip forms if we ask.
- GIS Day this year at Carleton is going to be given more attention than
previous years by active staff wanting to promote it. GIS day falls on
Wednesday Nov 20th; during Geographic Awareness Week. We should consider the
possibility of having our event in the evening. We would have a lot of
interested individuals on campus already. If someone was available to
represent OSGeo during the day (I may depending on work schedule), we could
set up a booth.

- In terms of software freedom day, we would have the same options available
to us to request.

I'd like to thank Scott for offering the use of the facilities.

The sooner we can finalize the location the easier it will be to get things
rolling. IMHO, we should certainly be making use of Carleton's facilities. I
vote for an evening workshop on GIS Day.

Very much looking forward to our fall events!

Cheers,

Richard
