Good point. I'm not sure what the rules are, and indeed osgeo4w is 
mixing various msvc CRTs. I've always figured it's bound to break 
something and avoided mixing any.

Note that laszip uses iostreams across dll boundaries. GDAL does not use 
any stl in public interfaces.
