Pl. see the mail below from Dr. Beverley. She want a global help in doing the Phase 2 of the HAITI EarthQuake Damage Assessment. If you feel you are qualified then PL. HELP.  Time is very short..and the DEADLINE is SUNDAY...only 2 days of your involvement. .that too through INTERNET..you can do this by sitting in home or late evening inthe office. You can put this work in your biodata and it will give weightage as you have done some voluntary help to a GLOBAL CAUSE.

Dear Jegan,

The Phase 2 detailed damage assessment for Haiti is ready to go, and we would like to invite yourself and your GIS colleagues in India to participate. Due to World Bank requirements for Q&A we ask that analysts hold Masters or PhD degrees in engineering, GIS or remote sensing.

This will involve using very detailed aerial imagery (opposed to satellite), to do the following:

    * Update Phase 1 damage points by creating a polygon footprint
    * For each footprint assign a more detailed classification of damage (collapsed or very heavy damage)
    * For each footprint assign a confidence level for your damage assessment

    * Adding new damage points and polygon footprints that you can now see on the more detailed aerial coverage. 

The results will be used by World Bank planners in the coming days for critical reconstruction and recovery planning. We will be using the same management system as Phase 1, where analysts enter their login to Virtual Disaster Viewer (VDV) and check out grids. Guideline documents for Phase 2 are attached.

To formally recognise the efforts of this community, whose outstanding efforts to date meant that the initial damage assessment was in the hands of World Bank's in-field team within 24 hours, we have established GEO-CAN (Global Earth Observation Catastrophe Assessment Network). For those wishing to become involved, we have new logins available. Just simply email myself or Shubharoop Ghosh (cc: here). 


We have an aggressive schedule in place for Phase 2, and we ask that all interpreters deliver their results to the team as soon as possible. We aim to have Phase 2 completed and checked for consistency by the end of the day on Sunday.  

Our sincere thanks for any help that yourself and your colleagues are able to offer with this critical damage assessment for Haiti.
