Riccardo,

We have made some initial progress towards storing raster coverages in
postgresql. The code currently resides here

http://svn.refractions.net/postgis/branches/gSoC2007_raster/

This was the result of a Summer of Code project by Xing Lin who did a
terrific job. Hopefully this will serve as a basis for more extensive
development or as an alternative design / implementation for
comparison with other projects.
