[postgis-devel] [PostGIS] #311: Rename postgis.sqltopostgis-1.5.sql

Paul,
I vote #1 and punt the final decision to PostGIS 2.0 because I don't think
#3 is feasible at this time given Mark's effort already.

Besides the main benefit would have been to be able to distinquish 1.4 from
1.5 and given 1.4 packaging is already set in stone, I think it will just
cause more confusion if we say use postgis.sql in contrib if 1.4 and
postgis_1.5/contrib...or postgis-1.5.sql If 1.5.

Most people are going to be just running one version anyway and its really
only the expert users that will be running multiple for testing reasons.
Those people are capable of working around this themselves in the way they
see fit. In most cases they are just deciding on whether to upgrade a
postgis 1.4 database to a postgis 1.5 by setting up a postgis 1.5 db with no
intention of ever going back to 1.4 if 1.5 works fine.

Well those are the use cases I see anyway.

I'd rather go thru this exercise once rather than twice. You know it will
change in PostGIS 2.0 anyway so why change twice?

Thanks,
Regina

So what's your vote? Honestly, I need every PSC member to express a
preference, so we don't just stare at this issue for 2 weeks and
*then* get around to voting. It's stupid, it's trivial, but I can't cowboy
it, and it needs to be resolved before release.

I'll vote for #3 then.

P.
