 For what its worth.  The above example is using Mass State Plane feet (not
 meters), so from my perspective the difference is even less significant.
 An the exercise I did this on (150,000 parcel distance from a line, I
 think this accounted for 25000 records. The others were exactly the same).

 I suspect it will change from platform to platform and possibly even the
 GCC version you compile with.

 I think any regress test we do will take into consideration some sort of
 tolerance and we'll need to decide what that is.   I was thinking to judge
 the rightness of each, we should probably run the same test against
 another spatial database like SQL Server or Oracle or IBM DB2 (preferably
 all 3) and see what their distance measurements come up with.

 I can try the same exercise loading the data into SQL Server and possibly
 Oracle to see how far those are from these.  I'm curious myself to see how
 far our distance calculations compare to other databases.
