 About directionality I guess it'd be worth making it consisten from GEOS
 itself
 (to respect original line direction). Currently it's unspecified, but
 would likely
 always be consistent ('right' reversed).

 I'm fine with your ST_OffsetCurveLeft/ST_OffsetCurveRight.
 Let's just give a couple of days for others to express their opinion.
