Ah yeah, I think I had a similar problem on my laptop here and it was 
because I didn't have the relevant schemas installed locally and so it 
was downloading them from the internet which was extremely slow.

Kevin, can you check with tcpdump (or equivalent) on the build box to 
see if it is in fact downloading the schemas from source for every 
build? If so, most distros should have a pre-built package lying around 
which when installed should solve the issue.
