 For the old 2D functions hmm yah I would like that except they aren't
 currently marked as deprecated (though maybe no one knows that since they
 aren't documented anyway).  I just would hate having two sets of names
 when I was all happy about having gotten rid of 200 some odd confusing
 synonyms.  If we do the others have to go.  Makes me think we should wait
 for 2.1 to deal with those.
