Paul,
No it doesn't.  If you let one stray cat in how are you going to say no  the
others? NO stray cats allowed, except for GeometryType which isn't really a
stray cat because it never returned exactly what ST_GeometryType returns and
returned something saner.

 It does call for having a special legacy file we call something like 

legacy_application_compatibility _layer.sql

Something long and ugly so people will think twice about installing it.  To
that list I would add
AsBinary, AsText, ndims, srid, find_extent, estimated_extent

That has all the functions we know all these third party apps use.
