 actually just noticed that BBorie's examples would involve using the datum
 shift files which maybe it's not finding in my install.  I'll try with
 ones that don't require datum shifts to see if it produces something more
 realistic.

 Bborie, maybe you can add some that don't require datum shift like say
 NAD83 california feet to NAD83 long lat (4269).
