 Well on the bright-side I can compile the latest stable gdal 1.8.0.
 Swapping out didn't help though so you are probably right.. Anyrate in the
 middle of recompiling PostGIS, though I doubt that will help.

 I wonder if its the same issue I have on windows as described here: #748

 To overcome, I just used Mark's hack of remarking out the nls_build line
 in the loader/Makefile.in

 Though don't see a similar setting in raster.
