Comment:

 Pierre's changes fixed this for me. at least for my 3.4.5 mingw.

 Bborie isolated the 4.6.1 regress issue to the fact tht there are 2 pwds
 so have to put a bash something or other in front. Anyway that one is
 fraught with probems so will tackle that later.
