Uhm, weird that I don't get that as a failure on both 8.4 and 9.1.
Can it be you have some special env variable or ~/.psqlrc setting requesting
to bail out on first ERROR ?

Note that the ERROR is expected altought we can probably do it better there,
worth a ticket....
