Hmm....  I can see how it would be nice for migration issues to accept both syntaxes, but my gut feeling is that a library should be more righteous than that, and only accept the correct syntax.  Otherwise you risk letting people perpetuate the confusion for the rest of the millenium.  Too bad there's no way to deprecate the syntax a la Java, by giving them nasty messages if they use the wrong one.

I think we'll try and take the high road in JTS, and accept only the correct syntax.  As you say, the fact that nobody's noticed this so far indicates MULTIPOINT is rarely used, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

This isn't the only wart in the SFS, as you will know if you've been following the JTS newsgroup.  Someone there was pointing out the inconsistent use of LinearRing and LineString for polygon rings.  Not an out-an-out error like the WKT syntax, but still somewhat confusing.

Ah well - even spec writers are human.
