[postgis-users] WKB vs WKT

I'm trying to figure out the advantages and disadvantages of WKT and
WKB.  I've read that WKB is faster to process.  Does this include the
AsSVG function?  The PostGIS manual only gives examples of what WKT
looks like.  In my search for information, I read that shp2pgsql will
export to WKB, but I haven't figured out how.  It seems to lack that
option.  Any insight would be very helpful.  Thanks.
