Of course, these binaries are against PostgreSQL 8.1 (the PostgreSQL
version in RHEL/CentOS 5).

If you want to use them against PostgreSQL 8.2.5, download

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/SRPMS/postgis-1.3.1-1.el5.src.rpm

and run

rpmbuild --rebuild postgis-1.3.1-1.el5.src.rpm 

and install the resulting RPMs.
