Not quite.

First, if a poster's From: address isn't valid or appropriate, and
they use the Reply-To: header to specify the correct address (this is
why the Reply-To: header exists), replacing it eliminates the
possibility of replying to the poster (unless the address is repeated
elsewhere, e.g. in the signature).

Second, because correctly-behaving mail clients completely ignore the
From: header if a Reply-To: header exists, both "reply" (reply to
sender) and "follow-up" (reply to sender and all recipients) will
usually (i.e. unless there are CCs) go solely to the list address. If
you wish to post to the From: address, you have to perform a manual
copy-and-paste.
