I see you are talking of Polish "System 65". I will try to do reproduce 
your calculations, hopefully tomorrow. By now you can read in my 
previous message how sterea outperforms default epsg's stere in 2171-2174.

You could also try:

It is a freeware converter which strictly follows Polish state geodetic 
service instructions for coordinates transformation.

Only for Windows though, maybe Wine?
