No, I did not change any existing use of lon.

Indeed, I believe you are correct.  I just carried over naming I used when
I was at PCI.

I have added "latlon" and "lonlat" as also acceptable aliases for the
same non-projection.  "longlat" and "latlong" were already both accepted.
