Prof. Mugnier, did you find your copy of the Strasser book, and if so,
could you provide some sort of copy for me? I am struggling with the
late 18th/early 19th century topographical maps of the Netherlands,
Belgium, Western Germany and Northern France, especially the Tranchot,
Ferraris and Cassini maps, plus the earliest national topographical
maps of the 19th century. I'm trying to make some sort of "Google
History" mapping application, based on 1:50000 and larger-scaled maps,
and I need as much information on their parameters as I can get.
Strassers book is not available in any library in the Netherlands at
all.<br>

That's not so difficult: about 50+ traditional ellipsoids, and the adjusted
ellipsoids for all Minnesota and Wisconsin counties, plus the mostly sphere

The largest I have ever seen in one place that is published is Georg
Strasser's Ph.D. dissertation from the 1960s, but I don't know if it's
available on the internet. Of course, it doesn't have the ones listed after
that date of publication. I think it contained over 200 ellipsoids ...
I'm writing this from out of town, so I can't put my finger on my copy for a
week or so.

Because I was refurbishing the GEOD_ELLIPS structure array of standard earth
ellipse constants with its current 54 entries I seem to recall a seeing a
list that may have been longer. However browsing the normal list of
suspects
has turned up nothing.
Does anyone have info on a well vetted and comprehensive list of earth
ellipsoid constants.
