The sterea projection got added in may 2011. See: <a

If you have a second (older) copy of proj4j somewhere in your
classpath, that might explain your problems.<br>
There is for example a proj4j.jar that is an Openstreetmap
plug-in. Maybe you have an old version of this jar somewhere in
your project. The code could also be in an other library you use.<br>
