I updated the patch[1] to do that.

When using the identify tool in edit mode the attribute dialog is
spawned when only on feature is selected.  When more features are
selected the identify dialog starts and has a "edit action" which in
turn starts the attribute dialog.

The attribute widget settings are also now stored to the project file.
