[Qgis-developer] Profile from contours

Hi,

I wish to generate a terrain profile from vector contours directly
without having to interpolate a raster DEM first. Does anyone have
such a plugin on the cards for development?

ArcView 3.x has a tool called "Easy Profiler2.1" with source code in
the public domain [1].

I initially thought interpolation could be avoided by only extracting
heights from intersection points between the path and contours, but
soon realised the path distance is under estimated if one assumes a
straight path between intersection points.
