By the way, what about a few buttons "Filesystem", "Favourites", "Web 
Services", "Databases" for filtering the top-level branches? In "Web services" 
there could be WMS, WFS and WPS only, the same with Databases.

It also means that every provider should be always assigned to one of the 
categories.
