[Qgis-developer] Splash screen for 2.0

I've just noticed the name for the next release and the effort for
getting a new splash, and I very much like the way this is going.

Currently, all splash screen drafts I have seen are heavily based on
swisstopo maps. While I personally like these very well-done maps, I
don't see the connection between these and QGIS. For me, looking at the
splashes feels like looking at a swisstopo advertisement.
I would prefer a version, where we show off the new features of QGIS
and/or having a historical map instead of just showing a standard
product of the official Swiss map-makers.

There are a long series of maps available for Switzerland.

These include

Sigfriedkarte:
http://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/internet/swisstopo/de/home/products/maps/hist/siegfried/hist.parsys.73474.downloadList.99205.DownloadFile.tmp/siegfried508.tif
(Sample)

Dufourkarte:
http://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/internet/swisstopo/de/home/products/maps/hist/dufour_digital/dufour_samples.parsys.73474.downloadList.57777.DownloadFile.tmp/tk0081861.tif
(Sample)

Geological:
http://map.geo.admin.ch/?selectedNode=node_ch.swisstopo.geologie-geologischer_atlas1&Y=633373&X=87292.5&zoom=9&bgLayer=ch.swisstopo.pixelkarte-farbe&layers=ch.swisstopo.geologie-geologischer_atlas&layers_opacity=1&layers_visibility=true&time_current=latest&lang=en

(Sorry, I'm not sure about the licensing terms for the historical maps,
so I was hesitating to distribute those. I know that it's not possible
to design a splash-screen like that, but at least these links give an
impression about these maps)

I'm sure there are even more other maps available.

Regards,
Matthias
