<div dir="ltr">I am quite happy with using the map we have. In the past we have used an array of different images so I think this is fine.<div><br></div><div>IMO we should stick to the design that Anita has done up as it looks really modern and will good for the product.</div>

Swisstopo map rather than the Dufour or Siegfriedmap. I personally think<br>
we can be proud of the current Swisstopo map - and as Larry said -<br>
besides the cliff drawing I believe it can be made in QGIS.<br>

I believe the modern map looks better than the original Dufour map - or<br>
would you prefer to use theses older map designs when you go<br>
mountaineering? This is not about belittling the work of Dufour - he was<br>
great at his time and laid the foundation of todays modern Swisstopo<br>
maps. Another advantage of using the modern map is that the map actually<br>
shows the name "Dufourspitze", while the old Dufour map does not (he<br>
couldn't name the highest point of Switzerland after himself) - others<br>
did that for him later when he got famous.<br>
<br>
For some background on the modern map: the shaded relief was made<br>
manually with an airbrush and the cliff drawing was made manually years<br>
ago by scribing on coated glass. Both the shaded reliefs and the cliff<br>
drawing were scanned and are now updated in Photoshop whenever there are<br>
updates (e.g. at retreating glaciers or when rockfalls happen).<br>
<br>
All the other layers are made with GIS. It happens to be ESRI these days<br>
but it could be QGIS in coming years, esp. if we continue to improve our<br>
cartographic rules and toolboxes at the same rate we do today.<br>
<br>
Anyway - I asked for permission and as long as we give credits in the<br>
QGIS about screen (not on the splash screen) and do not surpass the size<br>
of 500'000 pixels we are good to go. BTW: even with the older maps we<br>
would have to cite the data source.<br>

If people still prefer the older maps, please make a variation of<br>
Anita's design by using the Dufour map - see<br>
