Greg raises some excellent points about plug-ins with in-app
purchases.
I think it useful to distinguish between plug-ins the are enhanced
by in-app purchases vs. those that require purchases to be
functional. I find nothing more annoying than to download an app to
my phone only to discover that the in-app purchases are required to
make it work.
As to the privacy issue, again Greg makes a useful point that
downloads that reveal the canvas extents are passing possibly
private data. I think it we might want to add warnings to various
existing data providers (like XYZ tiles) to remind users that they
are exposing this information. Several common map providers are
well-known for their data harvesting and subsequent mining of that
data.
