Dear Barry,

we heard nobody from qgis yet willing to act as liason. Note that the
only task of the liason is to communicate to us the ranking of the
proposals for this year. What should be happening behind the scene is:
mentors from a software community (qgis) discuss via private email
about the proposals and rank them, clearly indicating who is mentoring
each proposals. At the end, the liason communicates to us how many
slots qgis would like to request and who are the mentors for each
proposal. The proposals must be sorted according to their ranking, as
you might have seen for example done by pgrouting. You can see
registered mentors here:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code_2017_Administrative
I see that 5 proposals were submitted for qgis. It seems obvious that
this year you guys do not have the mentor capacity for all of them, if
I were you I'd focus on one or 2 that are the very best among them,
and discard the others. But you really need to discuss this among all
the mentors (you can write them, finding the emails in the same
administrative page, only remember do not discuss this in public
mailing lists).

Hope this helps,
