<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div>Hi all,</div><div><div><br></div><div>As to Jody's question how that could work in practice: As the <a href="http://QGIS.ORG">QGIS.ORG</a> treasurer I am fine if OSGEO considers this part of the budget for the QGIS PSC. There are other requests in the budget planning Wiki from Anita - and we can treat this as one single payment from OSGEO towards <a href="http://QGIS.ORG">QGIS.ORG</a> and I can forward the funds to the various sub-projects: QGIS user conference, OGC standardization, developer process improvements, etc.<br></div><div><br></div></div><div>-----------------------------------------<br></div><div><br></div><div>as to Luigi's budget proposal: thank you for the update of the budget of the upcoming QGIS user conference.<br></div><div><br></div><div>I have a few remarks:</div><div>20 € for a half-day workshop seems too cheap to me. Now - I do understand that people in Portugal and Spain do not have as much income as people in Germany or Switzerland. But just as a comparison: a 2h workshop at the German FOSSGIS conference costs 100 € - and that is considered as affordable and cheap - compared to professional workshops by commercial GIS vendors. At the A Coruña conference, I would raise the workshop costs from 20 € to at least 50 €, if not a bit more. We are talking about half-day workshops. Workshop instructors invest quite some time and users should a get a pretty good deal out of it. So I don't see a problem raising the workshop fee, so that the main costs of the workshops (such as catering, security, travel expenses for instructors, etc.) should be covered by the workshop tickets.</div><div><br></div><div>At the german FOSSGIS conference they have a differentiation of workshop and conference tickets:</div><div>- community tickets for active contributors are basically free</div><div>- there are normal tickets for people from government and larger companies</div><div>- there are reduced tickets for students, unemployed, retired</div><div><br></div><div>They let people self-declare about their financial situation - and that works pretty well. People from government and larger companies are usually fine to pay more than students, unemployed, retired, community members or startup companies.</div><div><br></div><div>Basically, the normal tickets pay more than cost-covering to subsidize the reduced tickets.</div><div><br></div><div>It might be worth considering a similar scheme at the QGIS conference.</div><div><br></div><div>My personal opinion is: we should not "sell" the Open Source events too "cheap" to the general public. They already get free software. Ideally, such events should generate a bit of a surplus, so that developer meetings could be supported. This is - as far as I understand, also the idea of the FOSS4G conference, which seems to be a major source of revenue for OSGEO. <br></div><div><br></div>Greetings,</div><div>Andreas<br></div><div dir="ltr"><div><br></div></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sat, 19 Jan 2019 at 18:55, QGIS User Conference 2019 <<a href="mailto:userconf2019@qgis.es">userconf2019@qgis.es</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr">Hi boad<div><br></div><div>We updated the budget [1] with more realistic numbers.
