Hi,

This is obviously unpleasant matters to deal with, but if we
don't react, what will become our freedoms ?

So following my initial move in GDAL in
https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/11865, I'm following up with:

- GeoJSON writer: insert GDAL_RELEASE_NICKNAME:
https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/11875

- GPKG: insert GDAL_RELEASE_NICKNAME:
https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/11876

- GTiff: insert GDAL_RELEASE_NICKNAME in GDAL_METADATA tag:
https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/11877

- MapServer: https://github.com/MapServer/MapServer/pull/7233

- PROJ: https://github.com/OSGeo/PROJ/pull/4406

- GEOS: https://github.com/libgeos/geos/pull/1243

So QGIS is *going* to be affected, whatever it decides for itself

Cheers,

Even

Hi Nyall,

I understand your motivation - and I am also annoyed by the
current actions and behavior of a certain administration.

But I would refrain from making political statements with
QGIS. It will lead to more and more discussion on what should
be supported and what not - and who knows, certain statements
might create trouble for certain users in certain regions or
situations.

After publishing the "QGIS for peace" newsfeed at the
beginning of the Ukraine war, we got requests to make similar
statements in other disputes or conflicts - and we denied
those - for good reasons.

Disclaimer: this is my personal view - it hasn't been
discussed yet in the PSC.

PSC,

In support of GDAL's 3.10.2 release having the name "Gulf of
Mexico",
I would like to propose that the release name of the upcoming
3.42
version is changed to "Denali" (with a splash screen of Mt
Denali with
its correct name!).

The motivation behind this is to protest against the political
situation in the United States, and how the policies of this
current
US government are directly harming our community, users, and
all
future generations who would like to share and enjoy this
planet.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
