Not sure what it exactly does, as parts of it<br>

are only enable on paid subscriptions....<br>

PS build processes and branches are currently a little in flux, but I'm<br>
very carefull to just use our valuable translations, and not loose<br>
anything. I'm hoping that this Translations Memory also helps with that,<br>
as we 'change' resource key's with the new way of building docs.<br>

tl;dr please refrain from translating QGIS Documentation for one or two<br>
days while we move to some infra/build changes.<br>

Status update:<br>
<br>
As you maybe noticed the doc team is changing the tool chain we use for<br>
building the QGIS-Documentation websites<br>
Eg:<br>

Not only it looks different, but also the way we build it changed, and<br>
the way we pull translations from Transifex is changing...<br>
<br>
About building: it should now be easier to build (even on Windows), see<br>
the README.rst Please try master branch :-)<br>
<br>
BUT more importantly the way we work with Transifex is different.<br>
The OLD "QGIS Documentation" project on Transifex (used for QGIS 3.4 and<br>
older docs build) will be renamed to something like 'OLD QGIS<br>
Documentation 3.4" or so...<br>
It will keep holding ALL translations but will not be used to build anymore!<br>
<br>
The 'new' project (at THIS moment called 'qgisdoc', but hopefully can be<br>
renamed to QGIS-Documentation later) is filled with all the strings of<br>
QGIS 3.10 Documentation.<br>
We are trying to pull all the translations from 3.4 into that 3.10 project.<br>
<br>
During this migration: please do not do any translation of<br>
QGIS-Documentation in transifex. (you can translate QGIS-Website or<br>
Desktop off course....)<br>
<br>
Some notable changes....<br>
<br>
1) we will loose some percentages of the translation: either because of<br>
changes in sentences or files (off course) but also because of issues<br>
with them during the migration. IF you think you lost translations:<br>
please have a look into the 3.4 project and check if you can maybe get<br>
them from there, or ask us for help<br>
<br>
2) the number of 'resources' is down from 982 (!) resources / 518K to<br>
292 resources / 385K... I think it is good that we start with a cleaner<br>
slate again. Apparently there was some old cruft in transifex...<br>
<br>
3) I will move translations (sometimes < 0.5% translated) of about 50(!)<br>
languages from transifex into git (locale dir).<br>
And will automate that, so we can pull it into github automagically<br>
every now and then... but pulling from transifex takes hours (for our<br>
big project and 50 languages) so probably I'll start with once a couple<br>
of days...<br>
But on the positive site: it means everybody can easily build his/her<br>
language of choice :-) again see README.rst and try !<br>
<br>
4) copying the PO (translations) from 3.4 to 3.10 we also pulled/copied<br>
some not-needed translation files ... Let's keep them in git for now,<br>
but let's remember to clean them up later ....<br>

can hopefully fix it.<br>

The cool thing about using transifex is that people can (theoretically)<br>
work in parallel, AND transifex is 'responsible' that nobody is<br>
overwriting somebody's else work.. AND it (theoretically) should be<br>
easier to 'just start translating'...<br>
(Off course you can/could always just download the po file from<br>
transifex in your favourite tool and upload it again.)<br>

That we now put the po files in git is more a practicality of the build<br>
process.<br>
<br>
The model I was thinking about now:<br>
- people still translate on transifex (or down/up-load to it)<br>
- the project would be responsible to periodically pull the po files<br>
from transifex into github<br>
- builds will be done based on locale files from git<br>
- the project will be responsible for periodically push new source files<br>
and updates to transifex<br>
<br>
We are free to choose whatever model we want, for example IF a<br>
language-coordinator prefers NOT to use transifex, but work via PR's in<br>
github, I think we could remove the language from transifex and make the<br>
language-coordinator responsible for handling PR's then in github?<br>

Would you prefer that?<br>

Note that we are open to whatever works best! Just let us know.<br>

What do you mean by "more useable tools"?<br>
<br>
While I see a bit of an advantage using tools like linguist with<br>
displaying the context around a string (for the GUI) I see a lot of<br>
advantages in using transifex.<br>
I've hardly seen a newcomer dealing with git immediately in a perfect<br>
way while in transifex you can just "start".<br>
<br>
And as Richard already stated, you can always download the file from<br>
transifex and translate offline and upload it again later (seems that<br>
transifex deals with the changes in the meantime).<br>
<br>
So I still prefer transifex a lot over working directly with git in<br>
that case (and that while I can deal with git quite ok and I don't hat<br>
it ;) )<br>

The not cool thing is all this are "theoretically". Probably it is only me, but<br>
I have not found way to not loose translation when editing the same piece<br>
of text simultaneously from two different accounts. Whenever I try to download<br>
ts file it looses all translation history, only latest strings are<br>
here, not the previous<br>
version. Not to mention lack of the context which is very essential for GUI<br>
translations. Also downloading and uploading files extremely slow.<br>
Again, probably<br>
it is only me.<br>

I'm not saying that everyone should adopt GitHub or something else. Just asking.<br>
If I'm not wrong, previously the only way was to use Transifex for<br>
translations, git<br>
was used only as backup. Personally I already use private github repo to manage<br>
translations and upload files to transifex when I feel it is ready.<br>
