 Well, I think I found the problem - Apple's GCC in Xcode 3.x has some
 optimization bugs, I've worked around a couple already in GDAL and
 PostGIS, now it hits Qgis.  A new Xcode 3.1 beta was released yesterday,
 so I'll first try that to see if Apple fixed it.  Otherwise I'll have to
 build an un- or minimally-optimized Qgis.  Unless I can figure out how to
 get the cmake system to apply different CXXFLAGS to certain sources (the
 raster reading), I'll have to apply the same optimization to all of Qgis.
