Ola!

I think its probably Qt4 thats loking for mesa for its openGL support.
For your reference here are the mesa packages installed on my system:

ii  libgl1-mesa                            6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         A free implementation of the OpenGL API -- G
ii  libgl1-mesa-dev                        6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         A free implementation of the OpenGL API -- G
ii  libgl1-mesa-dri                        6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         A free implementation of the OpenGL API -- D
ii  libglu1-mesa                           6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         The OpenGL utility library (GLU)
ii  libglu1-mesa-dev                       6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         The OpenGL utility library -- development su
ii  mesa-common-dev                        6.4.1-0ubuntu7             
         Developer documentation for Mesa
ii  mesa-utils                             6.3.2-0ubuntu6             
         Miscellaneous Mesa GL utilities


Try checking that you have the same - you probably wouldnt need the
'dev' packages...

Please write these type of questions to the qgis mailing list as it
helps to have it archived if other people have similar problems they
can follow this thread...thanks!
